Hard to say

Going through life, there are found
Words which are hard to say
Not phonetically to sound
But for the price the heart must pay
A hard and painful price
Scorching the very heart of man
Melting the hard defense of ice
And throwing into disarray an ill-conceived plan
The heaviness of these words is staggering
But a full and weighty measure of hope
Is brought at their gentle ring
Allowing even the damaged soul to cope
Though clinging desperately to fraying rope

Feeling regret, and expressing your misdeed
I am sorry, and I was wrong
A very hollow and lonely creed
A bitter and remorseful song
How can a man bear its utterance
To admit the fundamental flaws of his nature
And to shed light upon the errors of protuberance
Illuminating his need for redemptive cure
A humiliating and degrading phrase
Rejecting the intrinsic pride of his existence
Revealing the inner-workings of his craze
Reducing his slim facade of valiance
Reaffirming himself in outward reverence

Perchance, this role might be reversed
And from this man is sought forgiveness
Consumed with anger what else might be rehearsed?
A solemn memory, tightly wrapped in bitterness
What is the price this man must pay?
How might he regain a part taken another?
Are there words adequate to take his rage away?
Or has he eternally lost himself in anger?
Certainly there must be words
Though hard, unbearable for him to speak
Will he allow them to be Heard?
Can he obtain the will to, redemption, seek?
Or will he in fear of release remain broken and weak?

How difficult the phrases
How unfair their cause
Yet how great are their praises
Bestowed upon he who speaks them without pause
But what of this man?
How does he reach his decision?
Will he undo his mighty plan?
Will he bring about humble conclusion?
Can he retain his pride?
Or will he fall broken into desolation,
Forever from the world forced to hide?
No, for him there can be no exception
Only by saying the hardest words, can he find redemption
